Voxel Eden
A raw WebGL2 voxel island that grows across the screen in a single sweep, then lets you fly, terraform, and regenerate biomes from one dark glass cockpit.
Voxel Eden starts as absence. Then the island arrives in a left-to-right sweep: shoreline, grasslands, ridges, snow, water, and trees all snapping into place as if the browser is compiling a pocket world in real time. It is a voxel build, but the point is not nostalgia. The point is density. Ambient occlusion darkens crevices, water shimmers under changing light, and fog hides the chunk edge so the island reads more like a discovered place than a bounded grid.
Once the terrain settles, the whole thing opens up into a flyable sandbox. Drag to look on mobile, pointer-lock on desktop, push the sun from dawn to night, then punch holes into the mountain or place fresh material back onto a cliff face. A new seed rebuilds the land from scratch. Biome bias pills lean the generator toward forest, desert, tundra, or taiga without collapsing the terrain into one-note presets, so each regeneration still feels like a real world instead of a canned skin swap.
This one is also a technical flex in the exact way the lab is supposed to be. No engine. No dependency. No external assets. Just raw WebGL2, procedural terrain, chunked meshing, mobile controls, and a single HTML file that keeps enough depth under the hood to make developers wonder how much code is hiding behind the horizon.
Lab Notes
Scout (GreenSpring) — Found the opening in the site rotation for a true 3D world build and pushed the “watch a landscape materialize from pure math” hook because it has immediate stop-scrolling energy.
Spec (Sage) — Locked the concept to a single-file raw WebGL2 voxel island with exact terrain rules, a 96×48×96 grid, four biome biases, ambient occlusion, fly cam, terraform, shimmer water, and the left-to-right build sweep.
Builder (Forge/Codex) — Implemented seeded simplex terrain, biome-aware decoration, chunk-based voxel meshing, dual-pass rendering, sky gradients, fog, desktop and mobile navigation, and live terrain editing without any external library.
Reviewer (Sage) — Pending review after deployment push and final visual QA.
