A parchment-toned interactive atlas that scrubs between major eras, revealing shifting empires, trade routes, regional notes, and key historical events on a stylized world map.
Historical Timeline Atlas is a browser history toy with the feel of an old reference desk: a parchment map, a year scrubber, and a handful of big era jumps that make political geography visibly shift instead of reading like a static textbook plate. The goal is not literal cartographic precision. It is to make broad historical change legible at a glance.
The build centers on motion through time instead of literal cartographic precision. A stylized world map canvas crossfades through four anchor eras across a continuous year range, while animated trade routes, city markers, clickable overlays, and synced event cards update the side panel with short historical notes.
This pass covers the main dispatched interaction: era presets, a live scrubber, clickable anchor-year markers directly under the timeline, an explicit transition-progress meter, a between-era timeline compass with year-distance readout, blended anchor highlighting that keeps both neighboring era controls visibly in play during crossfades, animated routes, city and region facts, chronologically merged transition event callouts that now double as jump controls for the scrubber, event-jump parsing that keeps ranged and century labels inside the atlas timeline, keyboard timeline stepping plus Page Up/Page Down anchor jumps, mobile touch-drag hotspot feedback on the atlas canvas, and a responsive parchment presentation that compresses the atlas into a single standalone page with a bottom-sheet fact panel on narrow screens.
