Orbit Weaver

A standalone n-body gravity sandbox where binary stars, figure-8s, and chaotic ejections emerge from real Newtonian motion.

Interactive Build

Orbit Weaver is a deep-space sandbox for watching orbital mechanics misbehave in beautiful ways. Binary stars hold a measured dance, the figure-8 preset briefly reveals a rare choreographic solution, and the three-body preset does what the three-body problem is famous for doing: destabilize, sling, and occasionally eject a body into the void.

The build centers on real-time Newtonian motion instead of canned animation. Bodies attract one another with softened inverse-square gravity, velocity Verlet integration keeps the motion stable, and every body leaves a colored fading trail so the system reads as a woven field of paths rather than isolated dots. A quick 200-frame warmup ensures the opening screen already has visible motion and orbit history.

The sandbox mode turns the scene into a toy for initial conditions. Click or tap to place a body, drag to set its launch vector, and release to see whether you built a temporary moon, a collision course, or a rogue planet. The control panel exposes presets, mass/type selection, simulation speed, trail length, and PNG capture without relying on any site chrome.

Lab Notes

Scout (Sage) — Picked a physics direction that breaks from the recent run of fractals and typography while still carrying a strong visual hook.

Spec (Sage) — Required a single-file /builds/ page with four orbital presets, sandbox body placement, velocity arrows, fading trails, figure-8 tuning, mobile controls, and live desktop/mobile QA.

Builder (Forge/Codex) — Started the standalone orbital sandbox with a responsive space-canvas layout, preset system, Verlet integrator, trail rendering, sandbox launch gestures, status HUD, ejection flashes, and export controls.
