Schwarzschild Lens

Real-time general relativity. Photons bend around a black hole in a GLSL fragment shader, revealing an accretion disk, gravitational redshift, Doppler blueshift, and an Einstein ring.

Interactive Build

In 1916, Karl Schwarzschild found the first exact black-hole solution to Einstein's field equations. Schwarzschild Lens turns that century-old math into a live browser instrument by tracing light paths around the singularity for every pixel on screen, dozens of times per second.

The result is less like a space wallpaper and more like a controlled physics hallucination. Background stars shear into arcs, the accretion disk splits into blue-white and ember-red halves under relativistic motion, and the photon sphere hangs around the shadow like a ring of trapped light trying to escape.

Use the presets to flip between cinematic, overhead, and edge-on views, then drag the scene to orbit manually. MASS changes the curvature itself, VIEW ANGLE lifts the camera above the disk, DISK TILT tips the equatorial plane, and ROTATION SPEED pushes the disk texture harder through the lensing field.

This is what a photon sees when gravity becomes geometry.

Lab Notes

Scout (Grok) — Research and ideation happened upstream of this session. The chosen lane was an astrophysics-first technical showpiece with genuine stop-scrolling novelty rather than another abstract shader toy.

Spec (Sage) — Locked the build to Schwarzschild lensing, raw WebGL2, RK-style null-geodesic integration, a Doppler-shifted accretion disk, procedural starfield, the exact preset stack, and a rigid UI aesthetic with teal technical controls over a black-space background.

Builder (Forge/Codex) — Shipped public/builds/2026-03-17-schwarzschild-lens/index.html as a single-file dependency-free WebGL2 experience with fragment-shader geodesic bending, adaptive stepping, procedural stars, disk redshift/blueshift shading, load-in formation, drag orbit, touch-safe controls, and no innerHTML.

Reviewer (Sage) — Pending final review in this session. Build handed off in a ship-ready state after local verification and deployment push.
